Angela
Smith is a speaker whose
humorous, down-to-earth and relatable approach keeps audiences
captivated. She is passionate about the abstinence message and
believes it gives peace and freedom to young people. Here's
how Angela shares her own personal experiences:
My parents raised me to wait until marriage for
sex, and I am so glad I listened to their wisdom. They often shared
stories about how sex before marriage can shatter a person's future.
I remember sitting at my grandmother's kitchen table when I was 13.
I was surrounded by my mom, my aunt and my grandma. They had a big
basket of fruit on the table and a feather. They asked me, "If
you had to walk 1,000 miles through a desert and you had to carry
something as heavy as this basket of fruit each step of the way or
this feather, which would you choose?"
The answer was easy, "The feather," I replied. They asked me why. I
told them, "Because it's so light, I'd never get tired of carrying
it."
Then they said, "Having sex before marriage is like carrying a heavy
load through life, while waiting for marriage is like carrying a
feather." They assured me, "In life, you're going to deal with
hardships. However, if you save sex for marriage, you will
have one less thing to worry about when the hardships come." Then
they each shared with me their own personal stories.
The memory of that day and the question my mom, aunt and
grandma asked, "Which one? the basket or the feather?" has stayed
with me through high school, college and to this very day? I am so
grateful to have a family that raised me with strong values. As a
result of my continued commitment to abstinence, I have been able to
achieve many of my dreams and there are many more to come!
Angela spent most of her childhood overseas while
her father was in the Army. She says growing up
internationally gave her the advantage of learning about different
cultures and many different types of people. She believes
these experiences have given her the ability to establish common
ground with people from all walks of life. "Having that
experience has helped me see the world is so much bigger than most
people think. There are so many things to see, places to go, and
really anything is possible if you believe and work hard."
After moving back to the states in 2004, Angela
earned a BSBA in Finance and is currently pursuing a Master's degree
in Media and Communications. She hopes to progress in the music
industry sharing positive inspiration through song. And, of
course, she plans to continue sharing a message of purity and hope
to the youth of our nation. In her free time, Angela enjoys
singing, rapping, writing music, playing basketball, traveling and
trying new things, foods and activities.
