John Magnus

John Magnus is a Speaker for Aim For Success. He is from Michigan and exudes youth, charisma, and energy to the room every time he speaks.

John loves to share his story as part of the presentation he delivers:

"When I was a teenager, I had dreams and goals. I wanted to go on to college. I thought it would be cool to play soccer in college. I wanted to join the military and serve my country and travel around the world.

Also when I was a teenager, I decided I was not going to have sex until I got married. An adult in my life who I really respected told me,

John, when you get older you're going to meet someone you are going to fall in love with. And you are going to love that girl so much, you are going to want to spend the rest of your life with that girl. And when you get married you're going to promise to love that girl more than anyone else in this world. But when you have sex with someone, you create a very special bond with that person. That's a very special thing that two people do with each other. Why would you want to do that with anyone other than that person you are going to promise to love more than anyone else?

So I chose abstinence. I decided I was going to save that gift for that person that I did not even know yet.

I recently met that girl and just got married this last summer. That was the first time I had sex. I was able to give that special gift to my wife. And my wife, that was the first time she had sex as well. She was able to give that special gift to me.

Now because I made that choice I was able to play soccer in college. I joined the Air National Guard. I am now a Firefighter, Staff Sergeant in the Air Force. I went to Iraq four years ago and served my country. And when I got back and finished college, I was able to travel around the world and see a lot of cool places because I had the Freedom to do that.

So when I say Abstinence gives you Freedom, I'm not just making that up. I know first hand just how it can give you Freedom."

 Just by walking in the room, John ’s personality and presence makes students instantly like him and say “cool.”

John enjoys spending time with Melody (of course!). Melody works for an organization that assists teenage mothers. John also does volunteer work at this organization. He stays active by working out and running 5K races.

John earned his bachelor’s degree in Watertown, Wisconsin where he played NCAA Division III soccer. John is currently working on his master's degree in Dallas with the goal of being a Chaplain in the Air Force.
