Bush Home Contact Us	Youth Reaching Higher Giving young people the tools to succeed is the premise of Youth Reaching Higher, an exciting new program offered by Aim for Success. The program targets at-risk 6th, 7th and 8th graders who are vulnerable to dropping out of school, joining gangs, getting pregnant, or engaging in other activities preventing them from reaching their full potential. Students participating in Reaching Higher learn they have opportunities limited only by their choices. They learn to dream big and stand tall to achieve their goals in life. They also learn to plan ahead and recognize the “speed bumps” and “potholes” that can slow them down or defeat their dreams. Reaching Higher programs are offered to students through schools, churches and youth groups. Students participate in the program for 16 weeks meeting one hour each week. Experienced trainers use interactive instruction techniques to make learning fun and challenging. Through a series of “Dream Work” activities, students identify their dream career, establish goals to help them reach their dreams and determine actions they will take to achieve their goals. Parents are involved throughout the program to provide further support for their son or daughter in helping them achieve their dreams. Two successful pilot programs were completed in the Dallas area in the Spring of 2005. The positive response and excitement generated among students, teachers, counselors, parents, school administrators and community leaders validates the timeliness, importance and value of the Reaching Higher programs. Two additional pilots begin in October 2005 for the Dallas Independent School District. Aim for Success is excited to offer Youth Reaching Higher under the direction of Shari Buie.
